In 2001, Hunter Douglas established its Professional Installer Program (PIP) to educate installers and build a referral network across the United States. The program offers credentials at the Professional Installer level and with further training, the Certified Professional Installer level. Completion of a two-day hands-on training course is required to achieve certification.

These sessions have been held at locations around the country, including sites in Phoenix, Chicago and Houston. Hunter Douglas redesigned their Professional Installer Program in 2009 to include a third level called Master Installer. A new applicant for the Professional Installer Level must submit his complete contact information by registering at the Hunter Douglas Professional Installer Program (PIP) website. He is asked to include information about the types of products he currently installs. A Hunter Douglas agent reviews all new applications and contact applicants with approval or further questions. To qualify for the next level, Certified Installer training, an applicant must demonstrate three or more years of experience in the shutter and blind industry. Qualifications for the third level, Master Installer, include five or more years in the industry and possession of Certified Installer credentials.
